How Blood Sugar Actually Works
People talk about blood sugar all the time, but most people don’t really know what it means.
Blood sugar is basically the fuel your body uses for energy. When you eat foods like bread, rice, fruit, candy, or pasta, your body breaks them down into glucose.
Then insulin helps move that glucose into your cells.
When everything works normally, your body keeps blood sugar balanced automatically.
But in people with Diabetes, something goes wrong. Either the body doesn’t make enough insulin or it doesn’t use it properly.
That causes sugar to build up in the bloodstream instead of being used for energy.
Over time, high blood sugar can damage parts of the body like:
- Eyes
- Kidneys
- Nerves
- Blood vessels
That’s why people with diabetes have to pay attention to things like food, exercise, stress, and sleep.
